Home is wherever the food is…
Ever since her mother returned home with a box of delicious goodies from Hazel’s Bakery, Annie Hurd has been fascinated by the pursuit of food! No matter where she is, Annie feels most at home when she’s on the hunt for that special item.
She spent her college summers working as a private chef on Nantucket recreating family recipes and making daily trips to Main Street to buy produce from Bartlett Farm or Portuguese bread and palmiers from the Nantucket Bake Shop. After college, she headed to NYC where she landed a job running a CEO’s private dining room, collaborating with one of NYC’s premier caterers to organize the company’s numerous events. After NYC, it was Chapel Hill, North Carolina where Annie got to sample the local flavor of a genuine “pig pickin” as the house director of a sorority house. While planning menus for 100 sorority girls, Annie still found time to take a cheese class as well as learn to make a true southern biscuit from Dorothy, the sorority’s cook.
Now, after raising three successful and well-fed children, Annie has decided to share the knowledge she has acquired from years of exploring and tasting the latest and greatest food shops in the area. The lightbulb went on and Local Pickins was created as a way to guide foodie people to specialty food shops and purveyors, farmers' markets and foodtrucks, where they can satisfy their craving!
